Latest Updates from Our Project:

All on board!
about 6 years ago – Thu, Feb 15, 2018 at 12:20:56 PM

Greetings from a snowy Finland!

The campaign is well funded, and we are very happy with the support the game has been receiving. However, we are not resting on our laurels, and we have not been idle during this time.

Based on the various comments and feedback that we have received, we have been working on the various components, starting with the board. None of the changes affect the rules, but they do make gameplay a bit smoother.

Combat notes

The combat notes were a bit difficult to read. We rearranged the map so that they are now above the battle tables where there is more room. They were also slightly reworded. This enabled us to also increase the font size.

Strategic towns

The strategic towns now have their names on more visible font, which helps to spot them even with units on them, which was somewhat difficult before.

Starting units

The one thing that we got quite a lot of responses about was that setup was time consuming. Apparently not everyone is as familiar with the geography of Finland… so we added small markings on the town spaces with units placed on them during Setup.

The legend

The legend on the side of the map has been updated with movemement costs for roads and railroads.

Thanks again for your support! We will also be posting an update with the improved rulebook and we are now working on improving the cards as well.

Best,

Antti

Funded!

Thank you all who have made funding this project a success!

Please accept our genuine gratitude. This, along with relief is what we feel as we look on for the next steps, which is preparing for production.

As you might expect, this type of game will have quite a limited print run, and we are operating without expectation of any distribution or retail sales. They might happen, but this type of niche game does not exactly attract retailers - even in hobby game shops.

Before production we will work on clarifying and improving some parts of the game. We have received valuable comments of things that needed that improvement. If you have found mistakes or omissions in rules or other issues please do let us know through KS messages.

The campaign is of course still ongoing for three more weeks, and we welcome all those interested of a game of this war to get involved.

Thank you once again!

Antti

P.S. (and feel free to ignore this part):

You might have some friends that also like obscure wargames. If you do, and they don't mind you gently spamming them, send them this link: http://kck.st/2nm8OCY

However, please do not think that you owe us anything more, you already have made our first game possible. Thank you once more!

Thank you for the first 24 hours!

Thank you all who have backed the project so far!

I am nothing short of thrilled to see so many of you backing my design during the first 24 hours.

It is not an easy task to put historical wargames on KS. Not only do they require a lot of background research and testing, but to the general public they also might appear with an aura of being difficult to play. I hope that 1918 will show that not to be true of all wargames, and will be a gateway to card-driven games.

If you know people who might be interested in this type of game or the Finnish Civil War era, I would be most grateful for you for letting them know. I know from first-hand experience that the best method of promotion is a hint about something interesting from someone you know. That is how I have found the majority of my games, some of which were an inspiration for developing the game you are now funding.

You can help reach our goal by using the buttons on the campaign page, or by sending this link to a friend: http://kck.st/2nm8OCY

We are now going to be working on making the game even better, e.g. by clarifying some parts of the rulebook and improving the graphic design of the cards and of the board.

Once more, thank you. Your support means a lot for a startup publisher - it does not get more indie than this!

Best,
